Graphic Designer
While many would say that their graphic design career start for them at a young age, for me mine came at a more mature age. When I became a senior in high school, I had saw the movie “What Women Want” with Mel Gibbson and just fell in love with the idea of being a graphic designer.
What Women Want
In the movie Mel Gibbson played as an art director at a major design firm in Chicago, IL. He was smooth, witty, charming and he knew what it took to win a client over. Then when the creative director position became available, he was in competition with Helen Hunt’s character to win it. Hunt was smooth, witty, charming, and a women and when she won the position she was able to bring in more clients then they had already been working with.
Overall
Although the overall story was about a man who didn’t respect women and had aquired special “powers” to be able to hear them thinking and learned how to understand and respect women and become a better man, I still fell in love with the idea of being able to use my creativity as a profession. Also, I loved the idea that I could do something that I enjoy and be genuinely interested in my work from day to day.
Influences
While my career choice was inspired by the setting of a movie, much of influences for my design work range from creative historical figures to modern day objects. I find that anything and everything can inspire my creativity.
